The reason I got into this profession
I used to absolutely dread having car problems. I don’t know much about cars and I have no desire to grow my tiny base of knowledge. I would bring my car into the dealership and feel like they were speaking to me in a different language. Each transaction would inevitably leave me wondering if I had been lied to or taken advantage of. Plus, half of the time I’d be back a week later after realizing the issue was still there. I’d likely end up paying again, with a poor explanation of what I had paid for the first time, just hoping I wouldn’t be back again to repeat this frustrating exercise the next week.
All this changed for me a few years back when I found Fred, my mechanic. I don’t worry about car problems anymore because I know I’m in good hands when I drop off my car off. If I had to describe Fred in three words, they would be honest, reliable and hardworking. I completely trust Fred and it feels great to be alleviated from the burden of having to worry about car problems.
So how did I end up being a financial advisor? Well before I joined Abacus, I ran the institutional relationship management team for an asset management firm in San Francisco. There was a change of ownership at the firm, which came with a new approach and attitude towards clients. I started feeling like maybe I was working for the car dealership I previously described and I decided to leave. An opportunity came across to work for Abacus and I realized that it was my chance to be somebody’s Fred. I jumped at the opportunity and haven’t looked back since.
One thing I’m doing to help the planet
In our household, we recycle and compost as much as possible. We also recently replaced the irrigation system in our front yard and made sure to use sprinklers and drip lines that use significantly less water.
Outside of work, my passions include
I love spending time with my family and friends. I also enjoy playing golf, watching football and baseball, firing up the BBQ, camping, and fly fishing. I’m happy to pair any, or all, of the above activities with a good beer.
One goal I’m saving for
As new parents, saving for college is at the top of our list. In the short-term we are working on building up a vacation fund.
The primary way I’m advancing my career knowledge
I have recently taken and passed the CFP exam. I have also earned the right to use the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
